GuruKool Asteroid Search Campaign

October 9, 2023 - November 3 , 2023

The GuruKool Asteroid Search Campaign is a one-of-a-kind educational outreach initiative run by the International Astronomical Search Collaboration (IASC) and led by Dr. Patrick Miller of Hardin Simmons University in the USA. This program offers a unique opportunity for participants to discover actual asteroids and even have the honor of naming them! Our campaign provides real data, ensuring that each discovery is a genuine contribution to scientific research.

To help interested individuals discover more asteroids, we offer dedicated training sessions that equip participants with the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in our campaigns. Our program provides exclusive access to astronomy images and training in advanced data analysis and software, and offers the chance to interact with international scientists, culminating in an invaluable real-time research experience.

As a result of our campaign, students and amateurs make confirmed discoveries of Main Belt Asteroids and provide important observations that contribute to the NASA Near-Earth Object (NEO) Program at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, CA.

Join us to embark on an exciting journey of scientific discovery and make a meaningful contribution to the field of astronomy!

Participation

Who can participate ?

The asteroid search program is open to anyone who desires a hands-on experience to make original discoveries using world-class telescopes. Participants have the opportunity to access real-time data from the 'Pan Starrs' (The Panoramic Survey Telescope and Rapid Response System) Telescope, located in Hawaii, USA. This telescope uses a 1.8 m (60 inch) lens to survey the sky for asteroids, comets, and Near-Earth Objects (NEO).

While we prioritize school students, we encourage all astronomy enthusiasts to apply for the program. It's an excellent opportunity to gain practical experience and contribute to scientific research by making original discoveries.

How to participate ?

To apply for the program, please complete the online application form provided. Once submitted, we will review your application and notify you of our selection.
